The Bayonne Housing Authority (“BHA”) owns and manages public housing apartments in buildings designated as “senior/disabled.” These building have elevators and some handicap-accessible units. Apartment sizes include studio, one-bedroom and two-bedrooms within five (5) developments across the City of Bayonne. Bayonne residents receive first preference.

The public housing apartments are subsized by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (“HUD”). They are subject to federal regulations and State of New Jersey tenant/landlord law, as well as BHA policies and procedures. The rent is calculated based upon 30% of the adjusted household income. All utilities are included in the rent. There is an additional monthly charge per air conditioner unit which is provided by the tenant.

Only applicants who are at least 62 years old, and/or disabled and/or have a household member who is disabled are eligible to apply. All others will be deemed ineligible. When your application is deemed eligible, you will be placed on the waiting list by the date and time it was received. You must inform the BHA of any change to your address, contact information, household composition, etc. It typically takes several years for your application to reach the top of the waiting list. When your application reaches the top of the waiting list, you will be contacted by mail.
